Candidate Questionnaire Responses
When in office, what will you do to reduce harm and ensure there is social and economic equity for Black Long Islanders? If you are an incumbent, what policies/initiatives/laws have you supported that do this?
I look forward to the opportunity to be an inclusive leader in our communities. Assembly District 4 is home to residents of widely varied socioeconomic status and diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. I will not only represent all residents in the district, but also work to empower residents through both policy and community-building efforts. I have and will continue to connect with fellow members of the Brookhaven NAACP, spiritual leaders, social workers, and other vocal community advocates and groups to deepen my understanding of social and economic equity efforts and issues.
In my time working to support the goals of local organizations like the Brookhaven NAACP, The Young Queens Project, and the Gordon Heights Chamber of Commerce, I see clearly that community leaders already know what is needed to support local youth, businesses, and justice efforts. These and other groups have been working to build healthier relationships and further honest, goal-oriented conversations with law enforcement, and I will hold space for this work to continue. In my role as an Assemblymember, I will strengthen networks of, deliver resources to, and shine a light on effective grassroots efforts, helping local leaders resolve social and economic issues within our communities.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know about your campaign?
I found my way to political office by working as a community organizer, environmental educator, and small business owner in my local communities. Through over a decade of connections and conversations, shared successes and frustrations, it became clear to me that the perspectives I've gathered are too often missing from legislative halls. I have facilitated local progress in my four years serving as a Trustee and Deputy Mayor at the Village level, and my collective experiences throughout Suffolk County have prepared and compelled me to bring these voices to Albany.
