When in office, what will you do to reduce harm and ensure there is social and economic equity for Black Long Islanders? If you are an incumbent, what policies/initiatives/laws have you supported that do this?
As a Town Councilman I’ve worked to ensure that people of color have access to town services and resources. As the Director of the Ujima minority internship program, a town sponsored program, that gives high school students of color experience working in town government. I also chair the Human Services department that oversees our senior centers and food pantry that provides services to hundreds of seniors monthly, many of them people of color. During the pandemic I worked with my colleagues to create a direct support program with ARPA funds to support minority business owners that were struggling to keep their doors open. During my tenure as an elected official I’ve always made it a priority to make sure that the concerns of communities of color voices are heard, if not have a seat at the table by bringing people together.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know about your campaign?
During my time on the Town Council I’ve worked with colleagues to make sure our town is safe, strong and resilient. We have made investments to improve the quality of life of our residents, we have a AAA bond rating and made wise investments in infrastructure and mental health services for our residents struggling with substance use disorder and or mental health.
