When in office, what will you do to reduce harm and ensure there is social and economic equity for Black Long Islanders? If you are an incumbent, what policies/initiatives/laws have you supported that do this?
Being a minority and a person of color myself, I can empathize with underrepresented communities. One of my top priorities is the safety and well-being of all of our residents, but particularly those from marginalized communities. I have spent a great deal of this campaign trying to learn the concerns of all residents, including those in the Black community. Getting to know and connect with people is who I am naturally and I have forged deep, authentic friendships with people on this journey, including with many in the Black community. I will continue to stand with those I represent and be an unrelenting voice for all. Another top priority for me is to make sure that our downtowns and local businesses thrive and succeed. I am an advocate for the MWBE certification and have helped to sign people up for workshops to meet eligibility requirements. Through initiatives such as this, I hope to bring access, opportunity, and a strong voice for the district which I represent.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know about your campaign?
If elected, I would be first Asian American person elected to a local Town Council, not only in North Hempstead, but in all of Long Island. Representation matters. I believe we need to combat hate crimes and racism, regardless of whether a person is Black, Asian, Jewish, Muslim, or any other group facing discrimination. We need to come together to stand up to hate for all Long Islanders.
