When in office, what will you do to reduce harm and ensure there is social and economic equity for Black Long Islanders? If you are an incumbent, what policies/initiatives/laws have you supported that do this?

Long Island has become increasingly more diverse, yet opportunity for black Long Islanders to achieve social and economic equity is not moving at a fast pace. There are opportunities to change this, and it will require awareness, activism and planning. Areas for growth involve working with local Non- profit groups to help drive awareness, provide assistance and support. In my district a great example of this is the Latino Civic group that works with stakeholders here to help support the latino community. This model had been proven to be successful and must be expanded upon. We also need opportunities for internships and work apprenticeships for our youth. As a school board member in Long Beach NY We have expanded programs to reach students of all levels. We have added medical assistant training certification to our school as well as “ future teachers “ program so students have opportunities to make real world connections and graduate high school ready to enter the work force. We offer automotive , TV and film and skills classes to further expand offerings for our students that make them career ready! This levels the playing field for our students and solidifies their futures as productive members of the community. As a legislator I would look to expand programs such as these and make them available to residents of Nassau County. .
